How to use the Symptom Explorer

Turn a few observable details into a practical next step. Each branch uses preset questions linked to the published appliance library.

Choose what you actually observed

Select the appliance type and start with the immediate-danger question. Next, choose the symptom that most closely matches what happened. The following question concerns a condition you can already describe, such as whether water remains, which cooling section is affected or whether the selected program uses heat.

Choose the uncertain or service option when you cannot safely establish the observation. You can go back to the previous question or start again. Appliance age is optional context for your saved summary; it does not select a failed component or determine remaining life.

Read the result as a next-step plan

An outcome explains why the selected observation matters and points to the matching guide. A routine outcome means the guide contains an owner-level observation to consider under the model's instructions. A professional outcome helps you organize a service request. An urgent outcome puts immediate help ahead of further questions.

Use the related guide for the full sequence, sources, escalation signs and technician notes. A symptom can have more than one explanation. The pathway helps organize the evidence for the next decision; an inspection supplies information the website cannot observe.

A sample observation path

Imagine that a washer finishes with laundry wetter than expected. After confirming there are no immediate warning signs, choose the wet-laundry symptom. Then describe whether water is also visible in the drum. Standing water directs attention to the drainage guide; an otherwise empty drum directs you to the spin-results guide and its cycle and load checks.

The value of this distinction is the next question it suggests. It does not assign a probability to a pump, motor or control fault. Use the controls and care instructions for the model, and record the result before making another change.

Prepare a useful service conversation

Keep the model, exact symptom, selected program and a short timeline. Add the safe observations already completed and any display message. An outcome's technician notes help you explain what changed without requesting a part replacement in advance.

If you receive a repair estimate, open /tools/quote-comparison to separate labor, parts and fees. Use /tools/repair-vs-replace when you have an actual repair quote and a complete replacement price. The pathway and the calculators answer different parts of the household decision.

Sources and information handling

Pathway outcomes link to published guides whose Sources sections identify the manufacturer or U.S. agency guidance. Questions are deterministic: the same selected answer follows the same branch. FAULTIVA does not generate a new technical explanation for each visitor.

The server receives the appliance, node and selected answer to return the next step. The displayed path and optional age remain in the current browser session rather than a personal diagnostic account. Read the Privacy Policy for site and hosting data handling. Copy or print the summary if you want a record for a technician.
