Ovens and Ranges
Review temperature, cooking and control symptoms with model-specific context.
Understand the symptoms.
Open symptom pathwayOven will not start: external control checks
Check the cooking mode, temperature and Start control. Begin with the chosen cooking mode and the exact model’s control instructions.
Oven temperature seems uneven: interpret the pattern
An oven normally cycles above and below its target. Compare a consistent pattern of readings with the model guidance before requesting calibration service.
Oven and range troubleshooting: starting and temperature
Distinguish an oven that will not begin a program from one that cooks differently than expected. Record the selected mode and the cooking result.
Choose a guide by what happened
For a start problem, note whether the display responds and what happens after a normal start command. Use the model's control guide to interpret locks, delayed cooking and mode selection. For temperature concerns, record the recipe, mode, rack position and whether the oven completed preheating.
Ranges and wall ovens differ in their fuel supply, controls and installation. Keep the full model number with your notes. A method for one appliance should be checked against its manual before it is used on another.
A useful first-check sequence
GE explains that oven heat cycles around the selected setting during normal baking. A single reading should be interpreted with its timing and measurement location. First follow the specified preheating and rack guidance. Record repeated cooking results before changing calibration settings.
Use the start guide for control observations and the temperature guide for heating performance. Keep adjustments within the normal owner controls and the model manual. A service visit is the appropriate setting for investigating internal heating, ignition or supply problems.
Prepare an effective service request
Prepare the model, fuel type, error text and a brief account of a typical affected recipe. Say whether the issue concerns baking, broiling, convection or all modes. Ask how the technician will check the reported condition and whether the proposed quote covers the same symptom and model.
Put the repair decision in context
A built-in replacement can involve cabinet fit, electrical or gas connection and installation work. Request an installed total before comparing it with repair. Use /tools/repair-vs-replace to organize your figures, and /tools/quote-comparison to compare written labor, parts and warranty terms. Keep a repeated cooking concern separate from a decision to change appliance size or features.
